Where Lily Lives
by EMMY GENOVA
You have never seen the lakes
But I promise you they are as vast
As you can imagine. So blue.
You can swim for miles in and
Be among the wrecks and monsters—it’s dangerous
But you will be begging to be swept further for a
night swim.
Orion’s constellation
Matches the marks on your back
Freckled in the summer sun.
I want to visit you at the ocean,
Grey clouds enveloping me as I
Swim into depths I can never imagine.
Slowly going under and up as I catch my breath.
I want to see what monsters lie under, until
The tide rolls me onto the beach
Panting and salty
To sleep amongst sea glass.
I can’t think of a more comfortable place to dream.
Emmy Genova lives in Avondale and owns a neighborhood bar/venue alongside her husband. When she isn’t tending to the needs of the (allegedly) haunted tavern, she writes, curates a book club, leads a cycling club, sings in a band, draws mediocre cartoons, and annoys her cats Ray Davies and Archibald.
