I Need to Tell You About the Tulips

by EDER I. AGUILAR

there are tulips that blossom every spring
on the Boulevard.
i’m not sure if they blossom on their own or if they are
planted there.
that doesn’t matter
to me
what matters is that these tulips are there
in the earth and they blossom
and they are beautiful
and they are worthy of admiration.

what i mean is that, next year
a new class will blossom in that same earth
but there is nothing like that first
batch that holds space
in your garden
the way that first class does.

i look forward to every spring and i look forward to
the tulips next year
