“Faeries” and “Forest Cottage”

poem and drawing by Oliver Flick

Faeries

At times, the decades lapse unknown,
But in this year, an eon passed;
The list of spirits guided home
Grew quicker than the shadows cast
On lands the risen used to roam.

Perhaps they gather in the night.
Perhaps their voices echo through
The mountains known to hearts, not eyes,
And ring out over rivers—hues
Familiar in the moon’s soft light.

They journey on and grow like us.
They learn to love; they lay their strife
In hands of higher, as they must.
We’ll know their everlasting life
When, in time, we turn to dust.
