Beppe

by ALESSANDRO BERTUCCI

Bid bisnonna bye —
break from bread and
bury your brothers
beneath the blame.

Bring a bag, Beppe.
Bundle your birth books,
the blessed beads,
the brittle Bible.

Buy a blue slip.
Board the barge
bound bayward,
then bob below
deck and burrow
between two boys.

By March,
you’ll be beneath
the bronze Bartholdi;
a beacon beckoning.

Alessandro Bertucci, originally from Northern Kentucky, is a senior at DePaul university majoring in creative writing. Outside of writing, he enjoys reading, cooking, and exploring the city. After graduation, he intends to study immigration law.
