millions of ripples

by ANNA P

millions of people pass by my window outside
i know not a single one, but i wish i could
understand how they hurt, and what it would
take to heal them all, one by one

because if we are here and if we are human
what else are we here to do? i wish i could
be the moon in the sky, guiding travelers by
on their way home, one by one

millions of ripples, moving outward from one
single dust dropped in water, i wish i could
calm the storm, the one already at our door
but yet, we still fall, one by one

because if we are free and if we are found
why is there all this distraction? i wish i could
draw a map of the soul, with all stories untold
and hope we are not lost, one by one
